Jack became the office mascot.

Adam ran his meeting, settled a few things with the Davidson Group, wound things up with Kevin, who’d also been in the meeting while Tracy in accounting watched Jack, and then Adam had to hunt down his nephew. Apparently, tiny Jack Quinn was now the star of Quinn Development Enterprises.

First, he went to Tracy, who was supposed to look after Jack during the meeting. But when one of their top clients dropped by, she’d handed Jack off to Kara. Then Kara was needed to research one of the new projects, so Tom in IT took over. Like Kara, Tom had kids of his own, so one small baby was no problem. But then a computer crashed and Tom handed Jack off to Nancy at reception and by the time Adam finally caught up to the traveling baby, Jack was eating banana slices in the employee break room with Sienna.

“Not surprising,” Adam murmured. “The kid’s been all over the place...”

Standing in the doorway, Adam watched the baby squash bananas in his fists, and then laugh up at Sienna. She smiled at the little boy and everything inside Adam fisted. Her blond hair hung loose around her shoulders. Her blue eyes were shining. She wore a lemon yellow T-shirt that hugged her body, with a neckline that scooped low enough to give him a peek at the top of her breasts. Her jeans were faded and her sneakers were purple. He laughed to himself. Of course she would wear purple shoes.

A wild, barely controllable surge of pure lust rose up inside him, making breathing difficult and walking near impossible. Last night had been the longest of his life. Logically, he knew they’d done the right thing, pulling back from each other after dinner rather than giving in to what they both wanted. But logic didn’t have a hell of a lot to do with what he was feeling right now.

“You’re staring,” she said, and slowly swiveled her head around to look at him.

“I like the view.”

Her eyes flashed and he went so hot it was a wonder he didn’t simply spontaneously combust. There she sat holding a laughing baby and all Adam could think about was tearing her clothes off and stretching her out on the break table. Damn it, he never should have touched her in the first place. Those few stolen moments, her quick breathing and soft sighs as her body trembled at his caresses had reawakened every damn instinct and urge he possessed.

Jack squealed in delight when he saw his uncle, then threw a slice of banana at him and Adam almost thanked the boy for shattering the tension in the room. Staring at Jack’s round little face, with his wide-open mouth blasting a huge smile and his big eyes twinkling, Adam felt a surge of warmth he really hadn’t expected. He’d never wanted children, yet here he was now, a surrogate father. And if he were being honest, he could admit at least
